Vitamin D & Mental Health
You naturally create vitamin D when you expose your skin to sunlight. Vitamin D is an essential nutrient you need to maintain ideal health. Scientists and doctors agree that at least a third of the world is vitamin D deficient. New research is starting to show links between low levels of vitamin D and symptoms of depression. Getting enough vitamin D requires frequent and moderate sun exposure. If you live far from the equator or spend most of your time indoors, you may be experiencing low levels of vitamin D.
Exposing your skin to the sun to boost vitamin D can also enhance your mood and energy. Research has found that β-endorphins increase after sun exposure, and β-endorphins make you feel good!
Talk to your local Tan FX about regular tanning to help regulate your vitamin D levels.
Seasonal Affective Disorder
Seasonal affective disorder (SAD) is a type of depression that is related to the change in seasons. SAD typically begins in the late fall and continues through winter and symptoms may include low energy, moodiness, and depression.
